The Ultimate Coffee Buying Guide

When buying coffee, there are certain pointers to look out for to ensure you get exactly what you want. Some people prefer dark roasted coffee; others light roast, some prefer medium grind, others fine grind. All these different properties are what give your coffee its unique identity and determine the final taste. When buying coffee, here are a few things to keep in mind. Learn more about Boomi Coffee.

How You’re Taking It

If you like your coffee black, then you need to go for the best quality coffee. Black coffee leaves very little room for creativity, so if your coffee is mediocre, you won’t have too many options to help improve. On the other hand, if you like to add flavors and milk to your coffee, then you can get away with not-so-good quality coffee as the flavors will help cover-up.

The Coffee Machine

A good coffee machine should get up to between 195 degrees and 205 degrees. This is the optimum temperature for brewing as it extracts all the flavor from the beans giving you a potent cup. If you have a good coffee maker, then you should have no problems brewing different roasts, including Medium Roast Instant Coffee

The Taste Test

High-quality coffee should provide that perfect balance of acidity, sweetness, and bitterness. By perfect balance, we mean that it shouldn’t be too acidic or too sweet. You should feel the sweetness, acidity, and bitterness in one sip. The flavor should be smooth, and there shouldn’t be any off-notes, especially not a burnt taste. That is the most off-putting thing in a cup of coffee. It takes some time to master the art of coffee tasting, but it is still quite easy to tell if a particular coffee is off. That’s why we recommend that if you’re trying out a new brand of coffee, make sure you taste it out first before buying large quantities.

The Plastic Bag Test

Another commonly used method to test out the quality of coffee is the plastic bag test. Naturally, freshly roasted coffee beans continue to release carbon dioxide for quite some time after being roasted. This is, in fact, why coffee packages usually have a valve. The valve is there to allow any excess carbon dioxide to escape while at the same time preventing air from entering. To put the plastic bag test into action, just take a sizable portion of your coffee and put it in a plastic bag. Remove all the air from the bag, then seal it tightly, leave the bag for a night. If you find that the bag has puffed, then you’re looking at freshly roasted beans.

Aroma Test

Good quality coffee, regardless of whether it is Araku Instant Coffee or dark roast coffee, has a sweet-smelling aroma. When buying coffee and you’re not too sure if it's good quality, just try smelling it from the little valve on the packaging. If you smell a burning aroma, then you should probably go looking elsewhere.
